Over the last several years, Mr. Belka has been a pioneer in the translation of satellite imagery into art. The son of an architect and a musician, Mr. Belka naturally communicates both visual aesthetics and emotion through his work. An appreciation for the arts and the natural world has been a constant throughout his life. Not surprisingly, his earliest paintings depicted the wildlife and natural landscapes of Utah where he was born.
biography
While studying with Adrian Van Suchtelen at Utah State University, he expanded his focus to the human figure and abstract forms. After receiving his BFA, he continued to refine his technique through experimentation with geometric shapes and abstract compositions, sometimes incorporating representational features. Over the last several years, Mr. Belka has created a style that combines the abstract and the technical. Through the lens of the satellite, Mr. Belka portrays the earth as art – abstract landscapes that allow the viewer to appreciate each painting for the technicalities of the art and the physical place it depicts. Mr. Belka’s paintings have been exhibited in solo and group exhibitions nationwide, including Salt Lake City, New Orleans, San Antonio, Portland, OR, Upstate New York and New York City. He currently resides in New Orleans.
